It is said. Period.
We have probably all caught ourselves doing this - apologizing for things that have been done to us; no doubt caught ourselves more than once saying, "EXCUSE me" after getting harassed. While it takes a surprising amount of effort to change the ingrained, self-destructive, self-blaming mentality, we can change it. We can change how we react. "Above and beyond" everything else, that's something we do have control over. Rather than try and say it, we want to give a shout out to A Cat and Twenty for saying all the right words:
